There are simply no superlatives that adequately describe Lyle Hewitson’s achievement today! When he won the 3rd Race at the Vaal aboard “A GREATER POWER”, trained by Sean Tarry, he reached the 60 Winner mark and lost his claim as an Apprentice Jockey. Staggeringly, it has been less than 4 months since his first win as an Apprentice aboard Blizzard Belle at Fairview on 18 March and while the record books need to be officially checked, this has to be a record locally and most possibly internationally!

South African Jockey Academy Principal, Graham Bailey, was at a rare loss for words when asked for comment and said “what Lyle has achieved is indescribable! He is an incredible young man and Apprentice, who is determined, humble and talented and will go on to break many more records in his career”

Lyle himself was still trying to take it all in and enjoy the moment, but when asked for comment said “I just want to thank all the Owners, Trainers, Academy Staff and my Family for all the support and encouragement they have given me, for without them I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I have!”
