COLT DELIVERS WINNING LINES ON DEBUT

The China Horse Club’s hoof print in the United States became a little more pronounced when One Liner delivered right on que at Saratoga in the early hours of the morning.

The two-year-old colt became the first winner in the United States for a partnership that includes breeding giant WinStar Farm. One Liner is one of the first to surface from a promising pool of juveniles the partnership own and race and his emergence augurs well for the season ahead. The athletic colt looked well above average when making his debut at the ‘Spa’, showing good speed to take up a position early in the Maiden Special Weight (1100m) and then fighting off rivals in the home straight to pull clear by a length and a half.

WinStar Farm and the China Horse Club has a growing relationship also sharing in the breeding rights for the 2016 G1 Preakness Stakes winner Exaggerator, young G1 stallion Daredevil and racing horses in the United States and Australia.
“One Liner is a nice colt going forward and [trainer] Todd Pletcher is very happy with his win and what he had done going into that race,” said Michael Wallace, the Racing and Bloodstock Manager for the China Horse Club.

“Todd will see how he comes through this run before making any firm plans. There are some exciting opportunities out there including the G1 Hopeful Stakes but we will not get ahead of ourselves. One Liner had done a very good job to win at Saratoga on his debut, our members and partners will enjoy that, and Todd will look to place him to affect at his next start.”
One Liner was secured by USD150,000 from the Keeneland sales ring and hails from the family of the rugged G1 Donn Handicap winner Albertus Maximus and he above mentioned young G1 winning sire Daredevil.

Hours after One Liner’s outstanding debut, in a different hemisphere, fellow debutant Calanda almost made it a winning double for China Horse Club members when only narrowly touched out when making his racetrack bow in Australia. The Peter and Paul Snowden trained juvenile was burdened with a most testing barrier draw (10) around the tight Hawkesbury circuit but showed great fight to sit wide throughout the Steggles 2YO Maiden Handicap (1000m) and only be claimed in the final strides.
