VAAL 23/8/2016 Previews and Selections

Race 1
6-5-11-7

1st - 6 # Anna Pavlova is a very progressive sort, and she was a very unlucky runner up last time out. This filly has a very speedy pedigree, and she gets the services of top jockey "The Master Of Disaster" Gavin Lerena. Her consistency, racetrack experience and competent rider, should see her win this race.

2nd - 5 # Queen Of The Lords produced a very nice debut when running on smartly to finish third, it will be interesting to see just how much that run has brought her on, but she will no doubt be competitive here.

3rd - 11 # Goodness Me is certainly coming along the right away, and she should once again give a good account of herself.

4th - 7# Might As Well has run some very nice races in the maiden ranks, and despite what her last start may indicate, I do believe that she needs further than 1200m, but with that said she cannot be discounted here.

Race 2
3-2-5-4
1st - 3 # Rafa ran a cracker last time out when beaten just 0.30 lengths by Nugget Counter, he has run well against strong fields in the past, and will carry 4 kilograms less than the last time he ran. Jockey Sherman Brown gets along with him very well, which is a bonus.

2nd - 2# Jade Bay who is a half brother to multiple grade 1 winner and sire, Jackson ran a very nice race last time out, the ever green seven year old will be competitive here.

3rd - 5# Nugget Counter was a winner last time out, but he meets his adversaries on worse terms at the weights, but with that said he should still find himself in the money.

4th - 4# All Night Flight is a very honest sort, and he should once again give a good account of himself.

Race 3
2-6-3-8

1st - 2# Riparain tried hard to score victory last time out, he was narrowly dined by just 0.30 lengths. He should relish the extra 100m, and top young jockey Callan Murray who knows him well takes the ride. He is a lightly raced five year old, which is to his advantage.

2nd - 6# Sabre Dance has never gone unplaced in his four race career, but it will be interesting to see how he handles the rise in trip, although I have no doubt that he will get the distance, he will give the top selection plenty of cheek.

3rd - 3# Uposeupay was very disappointing last time out, but with that said, he is fit, has plenty of racetrack experience with some decent runs under the belt, and a top young jockey in Lyle Hewitson takes the ride.

4th - 8# Tafteesh is an interesting new comer from the Mike De Kock stable, he is a nicely bred individual, and should enjoy the trip based on his pedigree, he is capable of making a smart debut here.

Race 4
3-2-7-1

1st - 3# Wall Of Ice takes on a very weak maiden field here, he has shown that he is capable over this distance in the past, and only needs to reproduce his prior form to win this.

2nd - 2# King Of Thrones has been disappointing as of late, but having said that, he is capable of being competitive over this distance, and should be involved in the finish if finding his best form.

3rd - 7# Island Bliss is capable of getting this distance, and should be in the mix when they flatten for the run to the judge.

4th - 1# Reminiscence produced an honest effort last time out, but still needs to prove that he gets this distance.

Race 5
1-2-4-5
1st - 1# Negroamaro bumped some top class fields last season, and she did extremely well against them, the grey filly should start her season off with a win in this lesser graduation plate. She was very immature last season, and should have come on leaps and bounds during her twelve week absence from the racecourse. The 1400m is to her liking, which indicates that she probably won't need the run, expect a bold effort here!

2nd - 2# Silver Class is a talented individual, and I consider her to be a very unlucky one at that, she should have won a lot more than two races by now, but just like the top selection, she has run in some of the most competitive races around. She always gives of her best, and you can expect nothing less from her again here.
3rd - 4# Girl On The Run is a half sister to Blacktype performer Sabadell, and she has run accordingly. She is already a two time winner, from just six starts and her versatility looks well above average, having raced successfully from 1400 - 2000m. She does come off a lengthy lay off, but she enjoys this distance and could run into the money if fit and ready.

4th - 5# Caribbean Queen is clearly a very talented sort, she is unbeaten over sprints, but it will be interesting to see if it was the right move to step her up in distance, but she should finish in the quartet regardless of truly getting the trip or not.

Race 6
6-3-7-4
1st - 6# British Royale produced a very good run last time out when running five lengths behind eventual Bloodstock South Africa Sprint winner, Hack Green in a Group two. This talented individual drops in class, and should take a power of beating under top jockey Lyle Hewitson.

2nd - 3# Roquebrune did win on debut, but produced a dissapointing effort thereafter, with that said, I feel that he was out of his depth in such a strong field so early on in his career, since then he has been rested for a short period of time, and he has been gelded as well. He should get his career back on track by running a place in this race.

3rd - 7# Tour Of Duty was a good debut winner, and he has a very nice pedigree to boot. He should have the scope to run a decent race here.

4th - 4# Relish who is a half brother to stakes performer Trip Tease should have been further along in his career than he is at this stage, but he ran a fair race last time out, and should give another good account of himself here.

Race 7 (5 runner field)
2-1-6

1st - 2# Embrasiatic is fairly well handicapped in this small field of five, she ran a good enough race last time out, and if she raises her A game she will be the horse to beat.

2nd - 1# Bally Swiss has had average form as of late, but will certainly be competitive in this heat with top young jockey Lyle Hewitson aboard.

3rd - 6# Nitrogen is a very honest horse, who always gives of her best, she has battled to pick up her second career win, but has what it takes to get into the frame here.

Race 8
3-1-2-4
1st - 3# Indzaba will in all likely hood pick up her second career victory under the "Master Of Disaster" Gavin Lerena in this low level staying handicaps for fillies and mares, the weights are in her favour, and she is in good nick at the moment.

2nd - 1# Parisienne Chic will give the top selection the most cheek, even though the weights do not favour her, she is however in good form at the moment, and based on that she will have a huge say in the finish of this race.

3rd - 2# Tobesuretobesure won a good race last time out, and should run well again here.

4th - 4# Shankly Gates was disappointing in her latest race track appearance, but with that said she may have found the mile and a half to far, and should produce a much better performance over ten furlongs.

Best Bets: Wall Of Ice (Win) Negroamaro (Win) British Royale (Win) Indzaba (Win)
Value Bets: Queen Of The Lords (place) Uposeupay (place) Caribbean Queen (place) Shankly Gates (Place)
