TRIPPI STAYS ON TOP

Trippi, who was crowned South Africa’s Champion Sire for 2015-2016, is once again atop of the General Sires List.
The son of End Sweep, whose offspring have earned in excess of $50 000 000 thus far, has made his customary excellent start to the new season with his runners having already earned R815 600.

Trippi, whose great daughter Inara has been retired to the paddocks, is the sire of 64 stakes winners to date, with his offspring including the US Gr1 winner R Heat Lightning.

His three-year-olds this season include Gr1 Thekwini Stakes runner up Dawn Calling, G1 SA Nursery third Double Appeal, debut winner California Girl, and speedy Listed Storm Bird Stakes hero Flying Myth.

Former champion sire Silvano (Lomitas), whose 12 individual stakes winners last season included Equus Champion Marinaresco, has also begun the 2016-2017 season in good form and is currently second on the General Sires Log.

It could be another big year for the Maine Chance Farms based stallion, whose representatives this season are likely to include the above mentioned Marinaresco, Equus nominee Silver Mountain, Gr3 Winter Derby hero Elusive Silva, Guineas hero Black Arthur, and promising three-year-olds Janoobi, Palladium, and Arissa.

KZN’s late, great stalwart Kahal (Machiavellian) is in fourth place, just ahead of the sensational young sire, and Leading First Crop Sire of 2015-2016 –Gimmethegreenlight (More Than Ready).

The latter has made a superb start to the new season, with five of his last eight runners finding the winners enclosure.
Gimmethegreenlight, whose first crop includes Gr1 Premier’s Champion Stakes hero Gunner and the undefeated graded winner Hack Green, is also the sire of the highly regarded Gimme Six, who won second time out by four and a quarter lengths.
