There was a strong South African contingent at the first session of Goffs’ 2016 Orby Yearling Sale which got underway yesterday.

Jehan Malherbe, of Form Bloodstock, ended the first session with Form being the session’s third top buyer.
Malherbe bought six yearlings on Tuesday, with his lots grossing a total of €1,225,000.

Form’s purchases included one of the day’s top lots –a Scat Daddy colt who was knocked down for €480 000.
Consigned by Camas Park Stud, the Scat Daddy son (catalogued as lot 33) is out of the stakes placed Exceed And Excel mare Excelente and hails from the same family as G1 EP Taylor Stakes winner Fraulein (Acatenango) and the talented Exceed And Excel sired stakes winner Flashmans Papers. Malherbe purchased the well bred colt (his ill-fated sire’s 2016 Gr1 winners include Caravaggio, Dacita, Harmonize, and Lady Aurelia) for prominent owner Mary Slack.

Form also purchased a Declaration Of War (War Front) filly for €240 000, a Cape Cross (Green Desert) colt for €220,000, a Fastnet Rock (Danehill) filly (whose relatives include recent St Leger winner Harbour Law) for €150 000 and a Dawn Approach (New Approach) filly for €80 000.

The session topper on day one was lot 74, a daughter of champion sire Galileo who was knocked down to Coolmore’s MV Magnier for €900 000. Out of the Theatrical mare Green Room, the filly is a full sister to Gr1 Dubai Fillies Mile winner Together Forever and a half sister to Gr1 Etihahd Airways Prix Jean Prat winner and Gr1 sire Lord Shanakill (Speightstown).

Trading continues today, and the sale will be followed by the Wildenstein Dispersal Sale.
