The 2017 Gr1 Dubai World Cup winner Arrogate (Unbridled’s Song) was confirmed as the top rated thoroughbred in the world on the recently released LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings.
The list, which was officially announced on Thursday April 13th, covers the period of 1st January 2017 and 9 April of the same year.
A winner of seven his eight outings including the inaugural Gr1 Pegasus World Cup run earlier this year, Arrogate was given a LONGINES rating of 134, which places the four-year-old 2lbs clear of brilliant Australian mare Winx (Street Cry). The latter recently recorded her 17th straight win when victorious in last weekend’s Gr1 LONGINES Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.
Arrogate and Winx are well clear of the world’s joint three top rated runners –with Gr1 Dubai World Cup runner up Gun Runner (Candy Ride), Gr1 Dubai Sheema Classic winner Jack Hobbs (Halling) and Queen Elizabeth Stakes runner up Hartnell (Authorized) all receiving a rating of 123.
Legal Eagle (Greys Inn), last season’s Horse Of The Year, is the top rated South African racehorse on the list. The six time Gr1 winner, who recently captured the Gr1 H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes for a second year in a row, was given a rating of 119 –equal to international Gr1 winners Mind Your Biscuits (Posse), Palentino (Teofilo), Ribchester (Iffraaj) and Shaman Ghost (Ghostzapper).
