When Calvin Habib won the 5th Race at the Vaal, on Tuesday 13 June, aboard “HIGHLANDER”, trained by St John Grey, he reached the 60 Winner mark and lost his claim as an Apprentice Jockey. This is no mean feat when one considers that Calvin is only in the third year of his apprenticeship.
South African Jockey Academy Principal, Graham Bailey, was delighted when asked for comment said “Calvin Habib is a fine young man and Apprentice, who is determined, hardworking, humble and talented and will go on to have many more winners in his career”
Calvin himself is very proud to have reached this milestone, and when asked for comment said “I just want to thank God, my Family and all the Owners, Trainers and Academy Staff for the support and encouragement they have given me, for without them I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I have!”
