Greyville June 16th Preview: The Post Merchants

Race 1
3 – 2 – 8 – 6
Juvenile Plate - 1200m
Crymeariver (Elusive Fort) is clearly a highly rated sort, the filly won on debut and even though she didn’t feature at Grade 1 level last time out, she could relish the drop in class and land the score trying the polytrack for the first time. Doug Campbell trains, Pathway To Glory (Pathfork) the youngster has already shown a liking to this surface and he should go close to winning. Well Connected (Silvano) makes his debut in this contest, the Mike De Kock inmate is from a speedy family and could be in the mix if not to green. Michael Roberts trains, Prince Ardent (Rebel King) he is a slowly, but surely improving individual and a quartet berth is not out of the question for him.
Race 2
4 – 6 – 2 – 11
Maiden Plate - 1200m
Doug Campbell steps out, Hero’s Welcome (Brave Tin Soldier) he made a promising debut over this course and should appreciate the extra furlong on breeding, he should go close to scoring his maiden win. Bonjour Baby (Curved Ball) was hardly disgraced on debut when finishing 6th of 15, that run would have brought him on a ton and he can stake a claim on natural improvement. Tony Rivalland sends out, Luckdragon (King’s Chapel) who has run a few places in his career thus far and could be a factor if getting over from his wide draw. Strong And Brave (Kildonan) was disappointing last time out, but he cannot be written off completely on the basis of his penultimate effort.
Race 3
10 – 8 – 4 – 3
Maiden Plate - 1200m
Shindeagen (Brave Tin Soldier) makes the most appeal from the raced runners in this contest, she must be forgiven for her last performance, the conditions didn’t suit her and she has a massive chance on her prior start. Charles Laird conditions what looks like a quality individual, she is named, In Clover (De Lago Deluxe) and she hails from a blacktype line of horses. Gimmeakiss (Gimmethegreenlight) also makes her debut, the filly is related to the likes of graded performer, Las Ramblas and that in itself is quite eye catching. Sean Tarry took A – Rod up to Joburg to try the turf, she wasn’t disgraced but she clearly does prefer racing on polytrack, she might just relish being back on this surface and is one to include.
Race 4
10 – 6 – 1 – 5
MR 74 Handicap - 1200m
Johan Janse Van Vuuren has made a rather interesting jockey booking, in S’manga Khumalo who will climb aboard the unbeaten juvenile, Airtaxi (Bold Silvano) this move may very well pay off. King Django (Go Deputy) is a hard knocking individual from the Bosch stable and is the pick of the more exposed types. The Dean Kannemeyer stable sends out a smart boy in Prince Myshkin (Silvano) he is a huge runner on his prior start which he won, the gelding has definite claims here. Ebony Knight (Kahal) is a useful sort from the Van Zyl camp, his grass form is very encouraging, he should enjoy this surface being a son of Kahal and can make the frame here.
Race 5
4 – 5 – 8 - 11
MR 78 Handicap - 1400m
Seek The Summit (Elusive Fort) has hit a hot streak, she bids for a hatrick of victories in this contest and should go close from a good draw. Duncan Howells sends out, Wind Singer (Jay Peg) she’s clearly a useful filly and is a major player in this event on her win last time out. Trip Queens (Trippi) from the Sean Tarry stable has been there abouts as of late, she is honest and looks very competitive here. Duncan Howells has another lively shot, Mythical Magic (Silvano) she had valid excuses when last seen in action it may have been the mile which was to far for her, include her in all bets.
Race 6
3 – 4 – 7 – 10
MR 70 Handicap - 1000m
Michael Roberts has a very consistent campaigner in, We’re Watching You (Visionaire) she has been a runner up on consecutive starts and is ready to win by all indications. Online (Trippi) is certainly a decent filly, she should once again be there abouts, the Howells trainee is a live wire. Sean Tarry steps out, Des Nimes (Fort Beluga) she is drawn quite wide at 14 , but this individual has plenty of ability and cannot be written off with Anthony Delpech up. The quartet’s back end could be filled by a nice sort in, Simla (Querari) the Kom Naidoo inmate is better than her last start, in fact ignore that run as conditions did not suit her, she could earn a stake for her connections.
Race 7
10 – 14 – 11 – 4
Grade 2 Post Merchants - 1200m
The feature event on the card is the only race to be run on turf at this meeting. Anthony Delpech has been riding winners all over the country as of late and the Alec Laird trained, Amazing Strike (Ideal World) will be the benefactor of his expertise. Joey Ramsden sends out the tough horse Professor Brian (Encosta De Lago) he has won four on the bounce and is a lively contender despite stepping up in class. Another smart Australian  bred is Lord Balmoral (Star Witness) he did not act in the going last time out and must be forgiven for that poor run, the Vaughn Marshall inmate has eachway claims here. Barbosa (Captain Al) may be 7 years of age, but he is still doing exceptionally well having run third in Group 1 company when last seen in action and he looks to be competitive once again.
Race 8
3 – 4 – 10 – 1
MR 78 Handicap - 1600m
Veteran rider, Anton “Superman” Marcus climbs aboard the consistent, Fellow Traveller (Pathfork) he is a hard knocking sort and should handle the rise in class. Cape Fling (High Chaparral) would have been a confident pick had it not been for the draw, but should he overcome his wide gate, then he’ll be right there at the finish. Notacadmeicatall (Elusive Fort) has some stamina and can race right up to 2000m, and that will only benefit him here, he has place prospects in this event. Tony Rivalland trains the 1 horse, Spanish Captain (Captain Al) he is a decent sort and could whined up running into the quartet, be sure to include him despite his bad draw.
Race 9
2 – 10 – 7 – 1
Maiden Plate - 1600m
The final race on the card is a competitive maiden plate, Kali’s Champ (Kings Chapel) has the credentials to take the money in this contest, the Howells trainee probably has the most to fear from the first timer, Kapen  Cat (Silvano) the Dean Kannemeyer inmate has an exceptional pedigree, and can give them some cheek if not to green around the bend. Vested Interest (Bankable) was found to be lame when last seen on the track, his form prior to that was honest and he has a shout if reproducing it in this race. Doug Campbell conditions, Ecellerate (Miesque’s Approval) ran a good third in his most recent performance and a quartet finish is not beyond him if producing a similar type of run here.
