Turffontein June 17th Preview

 Race 1

8 – 6 – 2 – 1
Maiden Plate - 1600m
The lesser exposed sorts deserve a chance to get it right in this tricky affair, Pilgrim’s Promise (Await The Dawn) made solid improvement in her second start, she should relish the step up in trip and will surely be right there at the finish. Mike Azzie trains, Supergirl Condi a debutant by Western Winter (USA) she is related to a host of winners and could be a factor if not to green. Green Honey (Carpocrates) has had several starts to try and break her maiden, but she was a runner up in her most recent race and could be competitive here. Advance To Go from the Tarry stable has had valid excuses as of late and the drop back to a mile may just suit, the daughter of Gimmethegreenlight (AUS) has to be respected.
Race 2
8 – 9 – 6 – 3
Maiden Juvenile Plate - 1000m
Robbie Sage steps out, No More Words (Byword) who has improved from runs 1 to 2 she has that come on look about her, she will go close if the 5 furlong trip isn’t to fast for her. Rosie Bubbles (Rock Of Rochelle) must be taken note of, the Louis Goosen inmate is getting the hang of things with each outing and can threaten the top selection. Leon Erasmus sends out a competitive duo in, Kutamba (Rebel King) and Flying Falcon a daughter of Noordhoek Flyer (SNL) they both appear to have eachway chances and are by no means out of it.
Race 3
4 – 1 – 10 – 2
Maiden Juvenile Plate - 1400m
Cloud Nine (Oratorio) is a most interesting first timer from the Azzie yard and the fact that she is a half sister to graded performer, King Of Pain by Grey’s Inn (USA) means she’ll have no issue with the distance. Alraune is facing a bad draw, but she is still the best of the raced runners and must be taken seriously with Anthony Delpech in the irons, The Stagelight (IRE) should be very competitive. Sean Tarry trains, Shamrock who makes just her second start here, she is capable of improving on that basis and must be watched in this event. Candy Kisses (Antonius Pius) is a well bred filly, and the Gary Alexander yard certainly has a hope if she isn’t to green on the track.
Race 4
3 – 6 – 7 – 1
Maiden Plate - 2000m
King’s Creek (King Of Kings) is well exposed and there is no denying that, but she is a hard knocking maiden and always has a eachway shout, the Magner yard have a good chance with her. Leon Erasmus sends out the filly, Vu Indlela (New Approach) ignore her last start, she’ll be better over this trip and has definite claims here. Watch My Dust (Mambo In Seattle) made significant improvement when last seen in action, that was over a longer trip, but she has place prospects regardless. The Woodruff stable have a very competitive runner in Miss Bulsara (Silvano) she has only had a few starts and could still improve, she is one to watch with caution.
Race 5
3 – 2 – 1 – 7
Maiden Plate - 2600m
Spike Lerena has rated, Young Eagle (Main Aim) from day 1 and the horse is now starting to show why his trainer believes in him, Anthony Delpech takes the ride which is an added bonus. The Erasmus stable seem to have competitive runners throughout the day, Miesque’s Rhumba has been in fine form as of late and the Miesque’s Approval should be involved in the finish. Voodoo (Global One) ran a much improved race in his last start, he is a long time maiden, but can none the less stake a claim here. The Scott Kenny yard step out, Sabastian (Dynasty) the penny might be dropping at the right time and he could get closer to the action.
Race 6
5 – 2 – 6 – 4
MR 76 Handicap – 1800m
The lightly raced Happy Pills (Trippi) and Starpath (Pathfork) may have the run of the race, they are progressive types and the trip looks good for both of them. Mike De Kock trains, Trip To Rio (Trippi) he is always there abouts and should be concerned with the finish on that note, the gelding has solid eachway claims. The Zimbabwean import, Standpoint takes on male opposition, but her form is encouraging and she could earn a stake.
Race 7
 5 – 7 – 4 – 3
MR 88 Handicap - 1450m
The ever consistent, Count Tassilo (Silvano) represents the Tarry stable, he has a good chance of following up in this event if everything goes his way in the race. Scott Kenny trains, Vulcan (Kahal) the game 7 year old is in with a shout on his current form and can never be taken lightly. Horse no. 4, Silver Scooter (Silvano) produced a much improved effort in his last outing and has definite claims of getting into the mix with Delpech in the irons. Another competitive looking Kenny runner is, Morpheus (Silvano) he isn’t really suited to this distance, but a quartet berth is not beyond him on his last run.
Race 8
6 – 4 – 9 – 10
MR 71 Handicap - 1450m
Roy Magner trains the progressive, Prince Kahal (Kahal) should only enjoy the step up in trip, his post maiden performance would have brought him on a ton and he will surely go close here. Captain Chips (Captain Al) is in a good run of form at the moment and should he overcome his wide draw, he’ll be very competitive in this event. Erico Verdonese trains, a wildcard selection in, Black Cossack (Black Minnaloushe) he represents solid value whenever he runs and once again has eachway claims. A stone cold pick is Bubbly Reply (A P Answer) he might just enjoy the rise in trip and can earn a cheque for his connections.
Race 9
2 – 5 – 3 – 1
MR 62 Handicap  - 1200m
Stuart Pettigrew looks to have a live runner in Spider Flower (Greys Inn) she really should enjoy racing back over 1200m and will surely pay a nice sum should she arrive. The field lacks depth and on that note first timers out of the maidens such as, Gateway To Heaven and Momo could earn minor money if they are progressive enough. Goodness Me has claims of running into the quartet as she wasn’t completely disgraced last time she must be included in everything.
