The Matchem Stakes Grade 3 has always been an interesting contest between the older horses and the rising three year Olds and this years renewal Durbanville was a excellent contest, however this time with the four year olds vs the rest as two classy runners went fighting to the line down the straight.
The Joey Ramsden trained Table Bay, a talented but disappointing star, almost pulled off the event as the formline suggested against Our Mate Art but it wasn't to be as the Candice Bass-Robinson runner turned the tables on his rival from the Langerman earlier last year. There wasn't much between them then and the same applies today as they battle nose for nose down the final 200m of this contest in true Matchem style.
Our Mate Art prevailed by a head with the old man Silicone Valley flying up to grab third. The talented Gold Standard ran very well in fourth after a 36 week rest. One for the notebook for the Summer season ahead.
