Quartet for Crawford as Edict prevails

Edict Of Nantes, the leading 3 year old of last season, followed his excellent KZN winter season, with a lovely win after a rest in this ultra competitive Pinnacle Plate.

Edict of Nantes didn't have the run of the race, in this field packed with Grade 1 runners. He was deep on the outside of field before coming home strongly to claim the event. Brett Crawford's horses all finished in the top four after Black Cat Black led the field from the gun with star miler Captain America following him. Edict Of Nantes and Sail South were further back towards the outside of runners.

In the final 400m Black Cat Back had enough but still kept going. It was not strong enough for the flying pair of Edict Of Nantes and Sail South however as the Grade 1 winners stormed home. Captain America, the other Grade f1 winner from last season, finished third passing Black Cat Back who claimed an impressive fourth in this company. They all finished within a length of each other. African Night Sky was further back beaten 1.75 lengths.

Depending in the various fitness levels of each other, this looked an impressive run from almost the entire field, with loads of improvement to come from most of them as they reach peak fitness. Horizon and Black Arthur were mildly disappointing finishing 5.75 and 6.25 lengths back respectively.
