The Met Day races to be simulcast for betting

The Hong Kong Jockey Club will simulcast for betting six races from the Met Day meeting at Kenilworth racecourse of Cape Town in South Africa on Saturday, 27 January. (1st race 8:25 pm HK Time). The Jockey Club has turned its attention to South Africa after being snubbed by Australian authorities regarding the movement of horses to each country after the planned operation of the Chinese based training facility called Conghua. This is scheduled for opening in late 2018. The Jockey Club have bought horses at the recent CTS Sale  in Cape Town having boycotted Magic Millions a week earlier.

Takes place on the last Saturday of January of every year, the Met Day is not only the climax of South Africa’s summer horseracing season but also the most anticipated social events in town with thrilling racing and glamorous fashion on show.

The Met was first run in 1883 and firmly established as one of the “Big Three” races in South Africa alongside Durban July and the Summer Cup. Dual South Africa Horse of the Year LEGAL EAGLE heads a classy line-up for the R5 million contest.

The day also features the Cape Derby, the most prestigious race in the Western Cape region for the classic generation, and the Cape Flying Championship, one of the country’s major sprint races.
