The Kzn Winter Season hasn't started yet but the excellent field assembled for Sunday's Grade 3 Kings Cup should be a nice taste of what's to come for the big races starting in May.

This end of March event is being used as a tester for many prospective feature race runners, testing the water in terms of form and readiness. The most important horse racing tips for this iconic Winter season will start with events like this.

The likes of It's My Turn instantly stand out on the card. He hasn't won in two years but he has the class to prevail. Dean Kannemeyer trains the former Snaith July runner. He was only beaten ust over a length in that race carrying 55.5 kgs. It was commendable effort. He is the class of this race.

Talking of class the highest rated runner, the Mark Dixon trained, Celtic Captain, has run in some big races but failed to fire at the highest level, albeit he hasn't been far off. His penultimate was disappointing and must be ignored, he wasn't striding out on the day. He was a nice runner up to Roy Had Enough in his latest and not far off  leading contender Wild Wicket. He could be at the finish.

Special Order comes into the event after a lively run in a Johannesburg's MR 96 event when close up. He looks up and coming but has failed to live up to the expection the run behind Hat Puntano gave his followers. He hasn't won in a while, this could be his day.

Justin Snaith comes in with Platinum Prince who won 4 in a row but failed to fire in better company since. His run behind Eyes Wide Open last time out was exciting and much is expected.

Howell's Wild Wicket is an interesting runner for the season with the stable seemingly aiming high with talk of the Vodacom Durban July as his final challenge. This four time winner won a nice event in the Listed Michael Roberts and this is a natural progression. There will be no surprise see to him with the honours.

Captain America's brother, The Redeemer has found his best form of late when coming to Kzn from his Cape base and has blossomed into 3 excellent wins. He certainly has redeemed himself in the sunny climes of Kzn. His favorite distance like his brother, is the mile trip. He could be the surprise package at that weight.
