A VIEW FROM THE STANDS - "Who am I?"

"It was a cold morning when I first saw the light of day. There were a few people standing around after my miracle happened but I didn't care much about them. I wanted to try and keep these four wobbly legs of mine on the ground but it was nearly impossible. How do they expect me to walk with these thin, scrawny things? Little did I know what was to come in my future on this earth! Not only was I supposed to walk but they wanted me to run too! Impossible I say. All I want now is to be with my mom. She knows what is best for me now. Still I cannot believe that I was put on this earth only to run. I want to do more, I want to be more. I can't wait to find out what the world holds for me!

It has been almost 2 years now since that cold morning. I have grown a little. Some may say I have grown a lot. I have this beautiful chestnut coat and at last I have learned to walk on my four legs. They too have grown bigger and stronger. I now feel like I can run and run and run all day long. People have started taking an interest in me now too. I have a lot of nice folks come up to me and tell me how nice I look. I took a particular liking to a sweet lady who would come to visit me in my house, which strangely resembled a box, and give me sugar lumps and stroke my mane. She was so nice. I get the feeling that she was very important. She always looked her Sunday best and treated everyone with a great deal of respect.

What happened next I could never have foreseen. One morning early I got woken up by a face peering into my house. This was the very first time I saw this friendly face. He took me from my house, put a saddle on my back and gently walked me out to the training tracks. There were other horses around but they did not bother me. I just calmly walked with my new friend wherever he lead me. I felt safe with him. He seemed to instinctively know what I needed and always took very good care of me. This morning they asked me to do some running. Now this was something I could really get into. They asked me to run with another chestnut from my house. He was also a flashy horse with a big stride. We ran for about 800 meters on our home training track. I felt very comfortable as I had my friend on my back. He asked me to run a little faster and I thought, hey, why don't I try to run and see where my feet would take me. All of a sudden in a cloud of dust I was out in front and I could see in the distance behind me the other fellow decided to give up. Apparently I would find out later that he was older than me and he had done some racing. What was racing I thought? I hope it involves eating, I like eating. When I got back to my house another very nice man came to see me. He was very healthy and I thought, hey, he must like eating almost as much as I do!! He patted me down my neck and said something I will always remember. ""You are a legend!"".

A while had gone by and I was taken to another part of the country in a big, fancy truck. I did not like the ride much as it was very bumpy and quite noisy too. Luckily my best friend was with me every step of the way. He watered me down and gave me some treats. Sometimes I miss my mom but I am lucky enough to have found a replacement. My friend I came to refer to as "Happy" as he always had a smile on his face. Little did I know that this was only the first time of many that I would be traveling somewhere in some kind of transportation. I keep wondering where I may land up next. For me it does not really matter where I go, as long as I get to do what I love most…….RUN!!!"

Predict in the comments section below, who I am.

To be continued………….
