FORTUNE DROPS HANDS, FINED, SUSPENDED

 The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in Johannesburg on 10 September 2010, Jockey Andrew Fortune was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3, in that whilst riding AFRICAN LOVE (AUS), in Race 2 run at Turffontein Racecourse on Saturday 4 September 2010, he failed to ride this horse out by putting his hands down approximately three strides before the finish line, thereby costing himself third place.

Mr Fortune pleaded guilty to the charge and was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board imposed a suspension from riding in race meetings for a period of one month, and a fine of R30 000-00, R10 000-00 of which is suspended for a period of twelve months provided that Mr Fortune is not found guilty of a similar offence in that period.

Mr Fortune has the right of appeal against the penalty imposed
