Black Caviar breathtaking at 1400m

Black Caviar dispelled any small doubts of running past 1200m when scoring a breathtaking victory with consummate ease in the Group One MRC C.F. Orr Stakes over 1400m in front of a huge crowd at Caulfield.

The superstar mare’s record now stands at 18 wins from 18 starts, eight at Group One level, amassing $4.74million in prizemoney, a great return on the $210,000 trainer Peter Moody paid for the Gilgai Farm bred galloper at the 2008 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale for her lucky owners G J & Mrs K J Wilkie, Werrett Bloodstock P/L Synd (Mgr: N Werrett), C & Mrs J Madden, P Hawkes & D M & Mrs J Taylor.

Black Caviar ($210,000 2008 Premier, 5m Bel Esprit-Helsinge) had over three lengths to spare on the line over Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed and dual Group One winner Playing God after taking a stranglehold of the day’s feature with an amazing 10.64second sectional between the 400m and 200m.

Part-owner Gary Wilkie spoke at the naming of Black Caviar Bar at Inglis’ Melbourne complex during the week and was again blown away by his amazing galloper today.

“I am very proud of her and it’s a very humbling experience to be part of Black Caviar”, Wilkie said.

“I was worried today, there were some very good horses out there, but she just put paid to them very quickly, I’m just in awe of what she does, it’s just extraordinary”, Wilkie added.

Peter Moody has done a fantastic job with the daughter of Bel Esprit from his Caulfield stables and the ease of her win today certainly has the champion trainer thinking of backing her up in the Group One VRC Lightning Stakes over 1000m at Flemington next Saturday.

“What can you say, it’s just unbelievable, it’s mind boggling”, said Moody.

“I know people doubt the opposition, but they’re good horses, there’s a Caulfield Cup winner who look outstanding three weeks ago and what she does to good horses is beyond belief, it’s unbelievable.

“You’d hate to disappoint twenty to thirty thousand people who have turned up, I’m just rapt

“The patience of the owners, the job the staff have done around her, there is a lot of work that goes into her. It’s a massive team effort.

“I said to Luke that I’m seriously considering taking her to Flemington for the Lightning next week

“If she comes through this great there’s a chance you’ll see her in seven days and if she comes through that great there’s a chance you’ll see her another seven days later back here again.

“Let’s hope it keeps going for another season or two”

A crowd of 20,000 were on hand to see win number 18 after the Melbourne Racing Club took the decision to open the gates to the public free-of-charge, and record crowds are likely to keep following the champion wherever she goes.

Buyer’s next chance to find another champion with Inglis is at the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale at Oaklands where 790 yearlings will go under the hammer from Monday February 27 to March 1.
