PREVIEW SCOTTSVILLE 1 MAY 2012

PREVIEW:SCOTTSVILLE - 1 MAY 2012

Scratchings up to date as at 05h15 Tuesday 1 May 2012.

RACE 1:Maiden Plate 1200m Straight

CAPTAIN'S BID will need to improve here to win but he does run today over the C & D where he has run best and could cause an upset. The two-year-old, CAPTAIN LARS (Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech) makes his debut. Cost R1.4 million. Watch the betting. SCHWARZWALD (Yogas Govender/Anton Marcus) improved by eleven lengths when staying over the distance last time. Respect. FLY ME OVER (Glen Kotzen/Sean Cormack) is another two-year-old making his debut. Again the betting could be your best guide. CUCUMBER ALLEY has been improving and stayed on well last time.

SELECTIONS: 1st - CAPTAIN'S BID * (3); 2nd - CAPTAIN LARS (12); 3rd - SCHWARZWALD (8); 4th - FLY ME OVER (13); 5th - CUCUMBER ALLEY (1)

RACE 2:Maiden Juvenile Plate 1400m Bend

EL ESTRUENOSO (Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech) is another Mike De Kock two-year-old making his debut. Well bred. Watch the betting. BRIGHT IDEA improved by ten lengths in his second start last time. Respect on that improvement. The Ivan Moore stable normally comes in to form during the Winter Season. STORM DANCER is improving with each run. His latest effort was his best to date. MODUS MAGESH is inconsistent. Needs to repeat his debut run three runs back. DONNINGTON removes the blinkers. Did not respond with them on last time. Form is moderate and could place.

SELECTIONS: 1st - EL ESTRUENOSO * (4); 2nd - BRIGHT IDEA (1); 3rd - STORM DANCER (8); 4th - MODUS MAGESH (6); 5th - DONNINGTON (3)

RACE 3:Maiden Plate (F & M) 1600m Bend

SHEIKINA (Brown & Robinson/Keagan Latham) has run very well in her last two starts when running on. Placed second, a short head back in her penultimate start. Looks good in this race. REGAL BREEZE made a very good debut last time. Anton Marcus rides again and should go well over the "mile". PIGEON POWER (Kumaran Naidoo/Anthony Delpech) has very good form. Did not show from a wide draw last time though. Well drawn this afternoon. SENORITA AL is never far back and did have his excuses last time. BONNET PIECE has very moderate form. Place chance at best.

SELECTIONS: 1st - SHEIKINA * (2); 2nd - REGAL BREEZE (11); 3rd - PIGEON POWER (1); 4th - SENORITA AL (6); 5th - BONNET PIECE (7)

RACE 4:In Full Flight Stakes (Listed) (R125 000) 1000m Straight

Not an easy race. The Gauteng raider OH DRISCOLL (Dominic Zaki/Anthony Delpech) is in very good form against somewhat weaker. Will be running on. Good chance with 52kg and in-form jockey. CHOCOLICIOUS (Brown & Robinson/Keagan Latham) was not disgraced in a small feature last time. Has yet to run a bad race in eight starts and has won and placed this distance. Should be right there. STORM VANIDOSO loves this C & D with two wins and a third from four attempts this C & D. Anton Marcus rides. Tendency to fade late but must have a strong chance. NEVER FOREVER (Dennis Drier) will be running on and has won this C & D. KRACKERJACK ACE ran on well to win at Clairwood over the distance last time. Has excellent form this C & D (5 starts; 3 wins and 2 seconds).

SELECTIONS: 1st - OH DRISCOLL * (15); 2nd - CHOCOLICIOUS (2); 3rd - STORM VANIDOSO (3); 4th - NEVER FOREVER (5); 5th - KRACKERJACK ACE (14)

RACE 5:The Sledgehammer (Listed)
(R125 000) 1800m Bend

SOLO TRAVELLER (Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech) has faced much stronger and has a winning chance in this listed event if running on. BLAKE (Dean Kannemeyer/Karl Neisius) has won his last three. There is talk around the track that he could be one of the horses to watch out for this KZN Winter Season. Trainer's only runner and jockey has only two rides this afternoon. Must go close in this event. GOLD ONYX (Sean Tarry/Sean Cormack) won very well last time and should finish in the money. KOMATIPOORT (Mike Bass) has not won in a while and stable has not been firing of late. One can never ignore this yard at any level nor at any time of the year. When they get back in to form they hardly ever miss. TOP SELLER (Vaughan Marshall/MJ Byleveld) has not run since November and his run prior to that was in April 2011. May need the run but has faced Grade 1 horses. Will race in the late Roy Eckstein's colours

SELECTIONS: 1st - SOLO TRAVELLER * (1); 2nd - BLAKE (5); 3rd - GOLD ONYX (6); 4th - KOMATIPOORT (9); 5th - TOP SELLER (2)

RACE 6:The Scarlet Lady (Listed) (R125 000) 1800m Bend

VIVA MARIA (Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech) ran disappointingly in the Oaks Trial at Turffontein last time. Is unbeaten at this track (2 from 2). Sets a good pace and usually holds on well. QUEEN'S COMMAND (Glen Kotzen/Sean Cormack) won by four-and-a-half lengths over the distance at Greyville last time. That was an impressive win and she must be in with a very good chance in this field as well. KEEP ON DREAMING (Kumaran Naidoo) has won 3 from 4 starts at this track. Ran on well to win over 1950m here last time. Has won over shorter as well. AUDREY ROSE (Justin Snaith/Felix Coetzee) has yet to show in a feature race but has good form. Won well at Kenilworth in Cape Town last time. ATAIR (Joey Ramsden) is battling for another win but is never too far back.

SELECTIONS: 1st - VIVA MARIA * (5); 2nd - QUEEN'S COMMAND (1); 3rd - KEEP ON DREAMING (6); 4th - AUDREY ROSE (4); 5th - ATAIR (8)

RACE 7:The Grade 2 The Debutante (R200 000) 1200m Straight

COUNTER RIDGE (Brown & Robinson/Keagan Latham) is unbeaten after two starts. Both wins have been impressive and she will be running on. Could have a bright future. ALL IS SECRET (Vaughan Marshall/MJ Byleveld) will be the biggest danger. She won very impressively on her debut run in Cape Town last time. Vaughan Marshall has already won two juvenile features in Durban this season. One to go close. Will win many more. FUN SUNZI has not shown in two small features this far. Has won two easier races. MURMERING SKY (Dennis Drier/Alec Forbes) won her maiden at the second attempt by over four lengths last time. Don't ignore. THAT SO ATSO won well on debut last time. Could be anything. The in-form Cape Town jockey, Karis Teetan rides for Duncan Howells.

SELECTIONS: 1st - COUNTER RIDGE ** (1); 2nd - ALL IS SECRET (4); 3rd - FUN SUNZI (2); 4th - MURMERING SKY (7); 5th - THAT SO ATSO (9)

RACE 8:
Grade 2 Umkhomazi Stakes (R200 000) 1200m Straight

CONISTON GOLD (Justin Snaith/Bernard Fayd'Herbe) has the form to win and was not disgraced when finishing second in the Strelitzia last time. Interesting to note that Felix Coetzee does not ride him this afternoon. He has won on him on both winning occasions. He rides OTTIMO from the Ivan Moore yard. He won his maiden most impressively last time and must have a good chance.despite having to carry more weight than the two-time winner in the field, CONISTON GOLD. JADE BAY (Dominic Zaki/Anthony Delpech) showed exceptional pace last time when winning his maiden by six-and-a-half lengths. LIONIZE (Dennis Drier) also won his maiden last time at the third attempt. Difficult to assess. GO AGAIN (Brown & Robinson/Keagan Latham) won his maiden at the second attempt last time. Could be a promising sort.

SELECTIONS: 1st - CONISTON GOLD * (8); 2nd - OTTIMO (7); 3rd - JADE BAY (4); 4th - LIONIZE (5); 5th - GO AGAIN (3)

RACE 9:Maiden Plate (F & M) 1200m Straight

NATIONAL PALACE (Yogas Govender) did not show when racing wide at Clairwood last time. That was a disappointing run and she should give a far better account of herself this afternoon. PARTY QUEEN (Alec Laird) improved by fourteen lengths last time. Apprentice claim of 2.5kg should help. SWEET NOVEMBER disappointed over further last time. Has placed this C & D. Prefer over this distance. Stable companion, OLE OLE also never showed over further last time. Best runs have been this C & D where she has placed third twice. NORDIC LASS (Dennis Drier/Alec Forbes) makes her debut. Watch the betting.

SELECTIONS: 1st - NATIONAL PALACE * (1); 2nd - PARTY QUEEN (15); 3rd - SWEET NOVEMBER (4); 4th - OLE OLE (2); 5th - NORDIC LASS (14)
