PREVIEW:KENILWORTH - SATURDAY 28 JULY 2012
Scratchings up to date as at 19h30 Friday 27 July 2012.
RACE 1:Maiden Juvenile Plate (F) 1400m Bend
IN FULL FLO showed a nine length improvement in her second start last time. Gavin Lerena rides for Glen Kotzen. SAVANNAH AIR also showed improvement last time. DROPDEADBEAUTIFUL is another who showed very good improvement last time when running on strongly. SMART LILY has a money chance on her latest effort. Of the balance, EMBLEM'S STAR makes most appeal.
SELECTIONS: 1st - IN FULL FLO * (13); 2nd - SAVANNAH AIR (4); 3rd - DROPDEADBEAUTIFUL (1); 4th - SMART LILY (2); 5th - EMBLEM'S STAR (6)
RACE 2:Maiden Juvenile Plate (F) 1400m Bend
TIGHT SHIP tries the blinkers again. Form is good enough to win this afternoon. NEARTIC DANCER showed excellent improvement last time in her second start. Respect. CIGAR BOY has had two steady runs. Should pick up her maiden win soon. PARISIAN BOLT has placed this C & D. Has run ten times for two seconds and a third. Place chance. CAPTAIN JINKS made a fair debut last time. May improve to place.
SELECTIONS: 1st - TIGHT SHIP * (1); 2nd - NEARTIC DANCER (13); 3rd - CIGAR BOY (10); 4th - PARISIAN BOLT (2); 5th - CAPTAIN JINKS (9)
RACE 3:Maiden Plate 1800m Bend
BARREL 'N BUTT has fair form over 1600m. Chance on penultimate start. ROCK THE COUNTRY ran his worst race to date last time. Ignore and consider on previous form. The two-year-old CAPTAIN SIDERIUS takes on older. Looks to have more to do for the win but can still earn. KOENIGSEGG runs for the fifteenth time. Has very moderate form. BLUE CRANE may place with Gavin Lerena aboard.
SELECTIONS: 1st - BARREL 'N BUTT * (1); 2nd - ROCK THE COUNTRY (3); 3rd - CAPTAIN SIDERIUS (7); 4th - KOENIGSEGG (4); 5th - BLUE CRANE (5)
RACE 4:Pinnacle Stakes 1600m Bend
FABIANI is a classy individual who has found his best form again. Has faced far stronger than this. Gavin Lerena should extend his lead over Anton Marcus on this one. He loves this C & D with four wins, one second and two thirds from ten starts this C & D. Will be running on. SHIMMERING FLAME will also be running on and is another with great credentials this C & D. JET EXPLORER won well when racing over 1600m for the second time. Still has improvement to come. FOREST OF DEAN is steady. BADGER LAKE is improving again.
SELECTIONS: 1st - FABIANI * (1); 2nd - SHIMMERING FLAME (4); 3rd - JET EXPLORER (8); 4th - FOREST OF DEAN (3); 5th - BADGER LAKE (7)
RACE 5:MR 90 Hcp 1200m Straight
ROARING WIND has run all of his races this C & D and has won twice. Form is good. Likes to run on from off the pace. Gavin Lerena rides. GREAT FOX has improved in his last two and did face slightly stronger last time. JET INTO THE WIND won very well over this C & D last time. Could repeat. LAKE GENEVA appears to have improvement still to come. EXPLORATION runs well this C & D but form is patchy.
SELECTIONS: 1st - ROARING WIND * (8); 2nd - GREAT FOX (1); 3rd - JET INTO THE WIND (3); 4th - LAKE GENEVA (6); 5th - EXPLORATION (2)
RACE 6:MR 76 Hcp 1200m Straight
ACT WITH HONOUR is never far back. Form is decent. LEISURE JET won against stronger last time. Wore blinkers for the first time that day. Has only won and placed this C & D. Should go close despite the 60kg on his back. Despite his inconsistent form, YODAC looks to have a chance as he has been running in stronger fields. Looks to be well weighted. WISE CHOICE is consistent. RAGING BULL showed very good improvement last time. Respect.
SELECTIONS: 1st - ACT WITH HONOUR * (8); 2nd - LEISURE JET (1); 3rd - YODAC (3); 4th - WISE CHOICE (6); 5th - RAGING BULL (13)
RACE 7:Grade 1 Ladbrokes Gold Cup (R1 000 000) 3200m Bend
GORONGOSA (Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech) is unbeaten over the 3200. She is a top class stayer and looks to be the pick of Mike De Kock's runners. Will be running on late. Stable companion, VETTEL, with Anton Marcus aboard will more than likely set the pace, but could be hard to catch if a few lengths ahead at the top of the straight. KOLKATA (Sean Tarry/Piere Strydom) has placed second this C & D and ran a good race in the Gold Vase at this track on July Day. Could be a great double for the trainer/jockey combination (July and Gold Cup). With 54kg on his back could be difficult to beat. BLAKE (Dean Kannemeyer/Karl Neisius) will be flying the Cape Town flag in this race. Has hardly done anything wrong in his career and his latest form has been very good. SAGE THRONE looked impressive in the July Gallops a little over a month ago and was just over six lengths behind POMODORO in the big race three weeks ago. Expect a good run over this extra 1000m. Others to consider for the larger exotic perms are SEAL (Gavin Van Zyl/Robbie Fradd), ILSANPIETRO (Mike De Kock/Kevin Shea) and CAPTAIN'S WILD (Mike De Kock/Karis Teetan).
SELECTIONS: 1st - GORONGOSA * (8); 2nd - VETTEL (12); 3rd - KOLKATA (17); 4th - BLAKE (3); 5th - SAGE THRONE (4)
RACE 8:MR 86 Hcp (F & M) 1200m Straight
ENCHANTING CATHY ran well in a feature two runs back over this C & D. Still has improvement to come. The two-year-old CAPTAIN'S LULLABY looks to be above average. Ran a good second in a feature last time. Fourth run. PELICAN POINT has claims on a good recent run. CHRISALDON has more to find despite an easy win last time. SPLENDID SUN did not show last time. Consider on earlier form.
SELECTIONS: 1st - ENCHANTING CATHY * (8); 2nd - CAPTAIN'S LULLABY (5); 3rd - PELICAN POINT (3); 4th - CHRISALDON (9); 5th - SPLENDID SUN (2)
RACE 9:MR 73 Hcp (F & M) 1200m Straight
HALFWAY TO HEAVEN has good post maiden form. Gavin Lerena rides. OPT FOR OPERA only runs for the fourth time but has such good form that she has to come into the reckoning in a weak race. Good post maiden run against stronger. PHALABORWA EXPRESS has good form and must have a good chance despite trainer and jockey not being in form. SPRING BEAUTY ran well in her post maiden last time. Chance on that run. FIRST FAVOUR also ran a good post maiden last time but she took fifteen runs to win her maiden.
SELECTIONS: 1st - HALFWAY TO HEAVEN * (11); 2nd - OPT FOR OPERA (7); 3rd - PHALABORWA EXPRESS (15); 4th - SPRING BEAUTY (3); 5th - FIRST FAVOUR (6)
