PREVIEW SCOTTSVILLE 21 AUGUST 2012

PREVIEW:SCOTTSVILLE - TUESDAY 21 AUGUST 2012

There were no  scratchings as at 17h30 Monday 20 August 2012.

RACE 1:Maiden Plate (3-Year-Old Fillies) 1200m Straight

A number of first timers could have a say in the outcome of the opener. I like the look of the following, CHAVE DE OURA (9/4 F) (Dennis Drier/Sean Cormack) and SWIFT AND STRONG (Sean Tarry). WESTHAMPTPON (Duncan Howells/Gavin Lerena) showed very good improvement in his second start last time. Ran on. PRESIDIO (Mike De Kock) should improve on a fair debut last time. COPPER BAY has been consistent and should earn something.

SELECTIONS: 1st - CHAVE DE OURA * (5); 2nd - SWIFT AND STRONG (14); 3rd - WESTHAMPTON (15); 4th - PRESIDIO (13); 5th - COPPER BAY (1)

RACE 2:Maiden Plate (3-Year-Old Fillies) 1600m Bend

TAKADUM (11/20 F) (Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech) finished strongly in her debut last time despite being slow away and racing green. Should be the one to win. REASON TO RUN (Joey Ramsden/Sean Cormack) has had two good recent runs after a decent debut three runs back. Will be running on. GENUINE SILVER showed good improvement last time despite fading late. GOLDEN DOLLAR could improve on a fair debut last time. Keep an eye on the first timer, SZECHUAN (Gavin Van Zyl)

SELECTIONS: 1st - TAKADUM * (11); 2nd - REASON TO RUN (1); 3rd - GENUINE SILVER (4); 4th - GOLDEN DOLLAR (5); 5th - SZECHUAN (10)

RACE 3:Maiden Plate 2400m Bend

REGAL RACER (2/1 F) (Kumaran Naidoo/Sean Cormack) was returning from a five month break last time. That was a good run under the circumstances. Should be fitter this afternoon. Has placed a close up second this C & D. SLEW THE BOLD could improve. Stable off form. This is his twenty third start. CAPTAIN CHARLIE has modest form. Could improve. SOUNDSGREATOME is improving. Apprentice allowance of 4kg will assist. MISTICA (Kumaran Naidoo/Stuart Randolph) will need to repeat his penultimate run, which was not that great either!

SELECTIONS: 1st - REGAL RACER * (1); 2nd - SLEW THE BOLD (4); 3rd - CAPTAIN CHARLIE (2); 4th - SOUNDSGREATOME (9); 5th - MISTICA (5)

RACE 4:MR 68 Hcp 1950m Bend

LIBERTY ISLAND (9/2 F) (Duncan Howells) is well weighted. Drops in class and has an apprentice claiming 4kg. Fades late though. PERSONAL QUESTION drops in class. Races well this C & D but tends to fade late. Both GREAT DETAIL and LEAGUE OF HIS OWN drop in class and their chances should be respected. MOJAV may improve. Has moderate form though.

SELECTIONS: 1st - LIBERTY ISLAND * (8); 2nd - PERSONAL QUESTION (6); 3rd - GREAT DETAIL (1); 4th - LEAGUE OF HIS OWN (2); 5th - MOJAV (13)

RACE 5:MR 70 Hcp (F & M) 1950m Bend

AURUM (4/1 F) challenged well last time over 50m further last time. Has not won in a while and she has placed third this C & D. Anthony Delpech has the ride. PUTINKA won this C & D last time when holding on well. Apprentice claim again of 4kg. ZIRE SPECIAL (Kumaran Naidoo/Stuart Randolph) is holding form well. SHIMMERING JET (Mike Bass) was finding more late last time to win over 2000m. JOIE'S WINTER just failed to win over 2000m last time. Could go close again. RUBY QUEEN could improve.

SELECTIONS: 1st - AURUM * (3); 2nd - PUTINKA (1); 3rd - ZIRE SPECIAL (6); 4th - SHIMMERING JET (5); 5th - JOIE'S WINTER (4)

RACE 6:MR 78 Hcp 1200m Straight

THE WALRUS (16/1) takes a huge drop in class. Form is not that desperate and with an apprentice claiming 4kg, could cause an upset. ROMEO BRAVO (Dennis Drier/Sean Cormack) stayed on well in a MR 88 when running in his post maiden. Won well on debut two runs back. Looks promising. EXCEPTIONAL DREAMS (Sean Tarry/Anthony Delpech) is back in form and won well against stronger last time. Should be a strong contender. STOLEN DESTINY has excellent form against similar strength fields. Has won this C & D and should be running on. PROVENCAL (Alec Laird/Stuart Randolph) is not out of it either.

SELECTIONS: 1st - THE WALRUS * (1); 2nd - ROMEO BRAVO (2); 3rd - EXCEPTIONAL DREAMS (4); 4th - STOLEN DESTINY (3); 5th - PROVENCAL (5)

RACE 7:MR 100 Hcp 1600m Bend

DARK WIND (33/10 F) (Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech) has very good form but has not won in ages after having shown earlier promise. IN A RUSH (Joey Ramsden) must have a shout on his good third in the Thekwini last time. Stayed on that day. BROWN PENNY (Mike Bass) could be improving again. Loves the distance. ROMAN WALL (Sean Tarry/Brandon Lerena) had his excuses last time. Not out of it. TOP MARK (Dennis Drier) has very little weight to carry.

SELECTIONS: 1st - DARK WIND * (7); 2nd - IN A RUSH (2); 3rd - BROWN PENNY (1); 4th - ROMAN WALL (5); 5th - TOP MARK (8)

RACE 8:MR 80 Hcp 1600m Bend

SOUL MATE (33/10) (Dennis Drier/Sean Cormack) ran a very good post maiden last time Takes on stronger but looks to be a good sort that will win his fair share of races. DRUM SCORE (Sean Tarry/Anthony Delpech) has won this C & D and has good form. Usually runs on. WAY WARD STORM loves this C & D. Not without hope. SUPREME LORD ran well in his post maiden last time. Has not run since May. CHIPNPUTT has claims on an improved latest effort. PRIZEFIGHTER drops in class. Weakens over this distance. May sneak a place.

SELECTIONS: 1st -SOUL MATE  * (8); 2nd - DRUM SCORE (6); 3rd - WAY WARD STORM (4); 4th - SUPREME LORD (10); 5th - PRIZEFIGHTER (3)
