42 day ban for jockey Kennedy

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held on 18 March 2014, adjourned and concluded in Durban on 27 March 2014, Jockey Warren Kennedy was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.2 in that he failed to ride CAT IN COMMAND in a competent and professional manner in Race 4 at the Clairwood Racecourse on 19 February 2014.

The Inquiry Board was of the view that Jockey Kennedy failed to ask his mount for a sufficient and timeous effort from the 600 to the 200 metre marks and did not encourage this gelding to improve his position at that time.

Jockey Kennedy pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Inquiry Board having heard all the mitigating evidence, including CAT IN COMMAND’s veterinary history, and where he finished in the race, found Mr Kennedy guilty and suspended him for riding in race meetings for a period of 6 weeks (42 days).

Jockey Kennedy has the right of Appeal against the severity of the penalty imposed
