Quality fields for The Championships Day 2

The tremendous quality contained in the final six The Championships races to be staged as part of a nine-race program at Royal Randwick this Saturday will ensure a fabulous raceday for all to enjoy on Easter Saturday.

The $4 million Group One Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 2000m has attracted a field of 12 runners with premier trainer Chris Waller holding a strong hand with five entrants: Boban, Sacred Falls, Hawkspur, Royal Descent and My Kingdom of Fife.

“The Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes runners have accumulated in excess of $23 million in prizemoney between them,” said Ian Mackay, CEO for The Championships.

“We have a Melbourne Cup winner, an Australian Derby winner, The BMW winner, the Epsom winner, plus the winner of the last two Doncasters – in all these horses have won 21 Group Ones between them.”

The Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes boasts It’s a Dundeel, Green Moon, Silent Achiever, Sacred Falls, Carlton House, Boban, and Dear Demi, with a total of 53 Stakes races being won.

The $3m Group One Schweppes Sydney Cup over 3200m has a field of 17 headed by Irish St Leger winner Voleuse de Coeurs, with the $1m Australian Oaks drawing a field of 15 with the Guy Walter-trained Zanbagh to carry the number one saddlecloth.

“We are delighted with the fields in all six races for Day Two of The Championships and with much better weather forecast, it will be a fantastic climax to The Championships,” Mr Mackay added.
