While the under-card is strong, all eye’s will be on the mighty WAR AFFAIR in the Group 2 Singapore 3YO Classic (race 9) to see if the reigning Juvenile Champion can continue his dominance over his own age group.
Remarkably, the O’Reilly gelding has only been beaten against his peers when he had excuses on debut and has tasted defeat another two times in his career - both in Open company - where he lost no friends when finishing runner-up to some very smart types in Super Ninetyseven and Emperor Max.
So while he faces some unknowns in the 1400m feature - BLUE SWEDE looks above average after a dominant first-up win in Novice company - WAR AFFAIR looks a class above and it might be only luck that stands between the HW Tan-trained star and another clean-sweep of a series.
And it’s no coincidence that a few 3YO’s with potential - and are perhaps dodging the bigger races at this early stage of their respective careers - can win some of the other races on the card.
In fact ABSOLUTELY looks hard to beat in the Class 4 mile (race 8) and MY BARBARELLA could show her best with blinkers added when she tackles just a fair field in the Kranji Stakes D over 1200m (race 10).
In the lucky last it’s a another race that the 3YO’s should do well in and while SAVODAN, LASER STORM and BEST TOTHELIGN are horses to follow and can win, MIA looks very well placed from gate two back over 1200m and should be hard to run down.
Best Bets; ABSOLUTELY (race 8, win), WAR AFFAIR (race 9, win) and MY BARBARELLA (race 10, each-way).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 8 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7), race 9 (1), race 10 (1, 3 and 6), race 11 (Field).

RACE 8: ROYAL STAR 2007 STAKES CLASS 4 - 1600M COURSE A (LC) (TURF TRACK) TIME: 16:25 PRIZE MONEY: S$60000
Larry says, "ABSOLUTELY is a nice type and connections looked have found a nice race to continue the good start to what should be a profitable career. The 3YO won convincingly on debut and more importantly backed-up that big win with a terrific effort in Graduation company where he had excuses not to be two-from-two. At the handicap conditions he looks extremely well-placed with 54.5kg with the red-hot John Powell on-board a factor. The race has depth though with not much separating the likes of RUSTY BROWN, STAGE BRIGHT, CHEETAH and FUNCA. So much so, they all look good each-way options and any one of the quartet could win without surprising. But ABSOLUTELY's main danger could be KNIGHT SPIRIT who gets the benefit of a drop in Class, a handy 2kg claim and the fact he comes into this with a very nice effort over an unsuitable 1100m in better company."

RACE 9: SINGAPORE THREE-YEAR-OLD CLASSIC (SG2) (3YO) (SET WEIGHTS) (2ND LEG SINGAPORE 3-YEAR-OLD CHALLENGE) (RIDER ALLOWANCES NOT PERMITTED) - 1400M COURSE A (LC) (TURF TRACK) TIME: 17:00 PRIZE MONEY: S$350000
Larry says, "The best thing to do is not overanalyze this race as WAR AFFAIR is the only horse you could have on top. The O'Reilly 3YO has taken all before him clean-sweeping the 2YO Group races and showed when placing in the Raffle Cup at Open Group 1 level over 1800, he is one of the best horses in Singapore. He continued his dominance at his own age level with a commanding win in the 3YO Sprint and will just get better over longer. Some punters will “spec” the likes of the exciting BLUE SWEDE and his stable-mate, FAALTLESS, but they don't have the runs on the board at this level and until they do, it's WAR AFFAIR. The exotics will be tough to find and apart from the two mentioned, a horse like PERFECT CHALLENGER at long odds is worth a look with the Takaoka trio of MARSEILLE ROULETTE, ROOM FOR EXCUSE and YANGON also in the exotic mix at hopefully value."

RACE 10: ITMAYBEYOU 2006 STAKES KRANJI STAKES D (SET WEIGHTS) (1) - 1200M COURSE A (LC) (TURF TRACK) TIME: 17:35 PRIZE MONEY: S$38000
Larry says, "BEAUTY HARMONY looks a safe bet after knocking in his first win in Singapore at his most recent outing. That was on the Poly but his form previously suggests he can more than back it up on the turf and also in his favour, Alan Munro should have the 5YO handy all the way. MY BARBARELLA might not be as safe as a bet as BEAUTY HARMONY but with blinkers added first time, the 3YO filly might be able to show her best. The former Kiwi has been backed and beaten at four starts in Singapore but has shown enough to suggest she wins sooner than later and her recent trial with head-gear good enough for this. The race doesn't have a lot of depth with AGENAIS the one to watch late if the race run to suit swoopers with MARCUSINO, HIDDEN VENTURE, FUKU'S PET and GOOD BOSS the only others to include in exotics."

RACE 11: LIM'S RANSOM 2005 STAKES CLASS 4 - 1200M COURSE A (LC) (TURF TRACK) TIME: 18:05 PRIZE MONEY: S$60000
Larry says, "Races don't come much tougher for punters than this Class 4 with some very progressive horses in the field. In fact the four 3YO's in the field - MIA, SAVODAN, LASER STORM and BEST TOTHELIGN - all look good enough to go through the grades and are certainly up to this type of race. Of the 3YO's, MIA showed plenty leading throughout to beat the smart Rise N Shine over 1400m at his last start and certainly should be fresh enough to drop back to 1200m and show that same toe. Corey Brown stays on-board and from gate two, he will be hard to catch. But the race has depth and you could take your pick from the likes of ROYAL TUDOR first-up after a spell, EAGLE STORM with the red-hot John Powell riding and even a horse in winning form like SOON YI at value. Tough race... do your best."
