2014 EMPERORS PALACE NATIONAL 2YO SALE TO KICK OFF ON WEDNESDAY

Next week sees the 2014 Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale take place at the TBA complex in Germiston.
A strong catalogue of over 500 horses is set to go under the hammer over a three day period from Wednesday 12 August to Friday of the same week.

Trading kicks off at 10:30 am on each day with the first 140 lots being sold on Wednesday.

The National 2YO Sale has a long history of producing outstanding racehorses with a number of South Africa’s very best gallopers having graduated from this sale. Graduates of the 2YO sale include the likes of Gr1 winners All Afire (Golden Slipper), Asylum Seeker (Golden Slipper), Fez (Premier’s Champion Stakes), Rock Opera (Allan Robertson Fillies Championship), Jackson (Investec Cape Derby, Champions Cup, Daily News 2000), Lyrical Linda (Garden Province Stakes), Talahatchie (Premier’s Champion Stakes) and Zaitoon (SA Fillies Classic), to name a few.

Such world-class athletes as Cerise Cherry (2nd G1 Hong Kong Sprint), Dane Julia (NZ Breeders Stakes), Irridescence (G1 QE II Cup), J J The Jet Plane (G1 Hong Kong Sprint), Lizarre (2nd Singapore Gold Cup), River Jetez (G2 Balanchine Stakes), and The Apache (G2 Al Rashidiya, and a new South African sire for 2014) are also former National 2yo Sale graduates.

There have also been a number of promising performers purchased off the 2013 Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale.

Top-class Punk Rocker, winner of the Gr3 Godolphin Barb Stakes last season, was a R220 000 at last year’s sale, while other talented performers to have emerged from the previous year’s sale include impressive recent debut winners Doing It For Dan, Peace Again and Riverine Forest.

Unbeaten Listed Gatecrasher Stakes winner Forries Waltz was a R90 000 buy at the National 2YO Sale last year, and that Greys Inn colt will now further his career overseas.

This year sees a strong catalogue supported by the majority of South Africa’s leading breeders.
The catalogue contains offspring by such outstanding sires as Captain Al (4), Dynasty (8), Fort Wood (2), Kahal (3), Silvano (13), Trippi (8), Var (5) and Western Winter (4).

Lateral (15), Seventh Rock (3) and Mambo In Seattle (24), South Africa’s three leading first crop sires of last season, are all well represented at the sale, as are such promising young sires as A.P. Answer (15), Brave Tin Soldier (2), Elusive Fort (6) and Ideal World (19).

Stallions with their first 2yos on offer include Bankable (2), Biarritz (3), Don Pedro Mendoza (13), Great Britain (6), Just As Well (1), King’s Chapel (3), Noordhoek Flyer (27), Querari (6), Rock Of Rochelle (6), Russian Sage (13), Visionaire (1), and Warm White Night (7).
Live stream will be available online for the duration of the sale, while results and statistics will be updated throughout the sale.
Judging by the quality of bloodstock to graduated from past sales, as well as the quality of the catalogue for this year’s sale, the 2014 Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale is not an event any serious buyer can afford to miss!
