PANTHER MAULS LEGER RIVALS

British trainers had a highly profitable Irish Champions weekend winning eight of the sixteen races and I don’t think there was a prouder owner trainer combination at the Curragh on Sunday than Michael Owen and Tom Dascombe. They watched their Brown Panther storm home six lengths clear of favourite Leading Light (IRE) in the Palmerstown House Irish St Leger. The winner is a son of Shirocco who stands at the Cashman family’s Glenview Stud in Cork. It was a deserved win for the colt who was narrowly denied by Royal Diamond in the race last year.

Chicquita (IRE) made her first racecourse appearance since selling for €6m at Goffs last year in the Group 2 Moyglare ‘Jewels’ Blandford Stakes but she was eclipsed by the Dermot Weld trained Tarfasha (IRE). The daughter of Teofilo is also a Goffs graduate and she got first run on Chicquita and never looked like being pegged back. Bred by Rockfield Farm, the victory was a timely boost to her breeders who consign her full sister as lot 268 in the Goffs Orby Sale. It is a brilliant pedigree and the dam Grecian Bride has bred five stakes performers.
