Duke of Marmalade in High demand at Tattersalls

A daughter of Drakenstein Stud’s young sire Duke Of Marmalade proved in high demand on day two of the 2014 Tattersalls Breeding Stock Sale in Newmarket last week.

The beautifully bred Half Moon, by Duke Of Marmalade out of the Group 1 winning Quarter Moon, was knocked down to Japan’s KI Farm for 675,000 gns.

This made the 4yo one of the top lots sold on the second day of the sale, which concluded on Thursday.

Half Moon, whose numerous high class relatives include Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Yesterday as well as French 2000 Guineas winner and sire Aussie Rules, was sold in foal to unbeaten champion Frankel.

Her sire Duke Of Marmalade, who has covered an exceptional first book of mares in his initial South African covering season, has enjoyed a fantastic season in 2014.

The five time Group 1 winning son of Danehill has been represented by no fewer than 11 stakes winners in 2014, with his top performers including the Group winners Big Memory, Hall Of Mirrors, Venus De Milo, So Many Shots, Quaduna, and Wannabe Better.

A half brother to the 2013 Investec Derby winner Ruler Of The World as well as 2015 Derby hopeful Giovanni Canaletto, Duke Of Marmalade was Europe’s Cartier Champion Older Male of 2008.
