Sun Classique Handicap decided in the boardroom

The result of the marathon Sun Classique Handicap was decided in the boardroom. First across the line, GALLICA ROSE, lost the race as a result of interference with SAINT SOPHIA in the latter stages.

The race got off at a blistering pace with CATCHPHRASE opening up a huge lead. She led by almost twenty lengths into the home straight but began to stagger and was swallowed up at the four hundred metre mark. GALLICA ROSE was content to sit at the back of the field and a few lengths behind SAINT SOPHIA. The race developed into a ding dong battle over the last three hundred metres with the two fancied runners fighting it out both literally and figuratively. It was evident from the head on television view that the two had come together in the latter stages. It must have taken about twenty minutes to make what would have been, a difficult decision.
