Alboran Sea wins tight finish in the Betting World Cape Flying Championship
Trainer Mike De Kock picked up another Grade 1 race when ALBORAN SEA won the R1 million Cape Flying Championship. Uncharacteristically for Cape Town in recent times, there were a few problems at the start when NORMANZ broke through the stalls and had to have his breast plate re - fitted and reloaded. The field, apart from the unsettled NORMANZ and CASTLETHORPE were slow away. The race was run at a fast pace and the eventual winner used her action to keep herself together.
Jockey Weichong Marwing aboard ALBORAN SEA was quickest to respond down the inside with another Gauteng raider, TRIP TEASE, from the Louis Goosen led the pack. At the post race interview, both Weichong Marwing and Mike De Kock suggested that there was even more to come from this three year old filly, ALBORAN SEA. Her next mission is likely to be the Computaform Sprint at Turffontein, followed by a short stint in KZN.
Halfway down the straight TRIP TEASE took over the lead briefly from ALBORAN SEA, who continued to rally. KZN trainer, Dennis Drier, is never to be underestimated and his well-backed fancy CAPTAIN OF ALL was never too far away. As TRIP TEASE began to fade in the latter stages CAPTAIN OF ALL threw everything at ALBORAN SEA and from the angle it looked as though he had got up on the line, but the photo finish showed another result.
CARRY ON ALICE ran on well for third with TEVEZ also improving late to grab fourth.
