IRISH-BREDS TO THE FORE IN UAE

There was more good news for the Irish breeding industry at Meydan on Thursday where there were three Irish-bred winners. CASPIAN PRINCE (IRE) was first up when gamely winning the Meydan Sobha (Handicap) over five furlongs. The six-year-old son of Dylan Thomas (IRE) is now a ten-time winner for breeder Ballygallon Stud.

The Listed Dubai Millennium Stakes was won by HUNTER’S LIGHT (IRE) (pictured winning at Haydock) who has certainly rediscovered how to win again. A Darley homebred, HUNTER’S LIGHT (IRE) is a dual Group 1 winner, the son of Dubawi (IRE) ran out an impressive winner of the 10-furlong contest, his ninth Stakes victory and his third at Meydan after the Group 1 Al Maktoum Challenge and the Group 2 Al Maktoum Challenge last year.

DARK EMERALD (IRE) is to step up in trip and into Group class for his next start following his clear-cut success in the District One (Handicap) over seven furlongs. Now a seven-time winner, the son of Morristown Lattin Stud-sire Dark Angel (IRE) will be aimed at the Group 2 Zabeel Mile by trainer Brendan Powell. DARK EMERALD (IRE) was sold at the Goffs November Foal Sale in 2010 by Blindwood Stud for €18,000. Bloodstock agent Aidan O'Ryan was the purchaser.

Meanwhile at Jebel Ali, FORJATT (IRE) registered his seventh career success when gaining a narrow win in the Group 3 Jebel Ali Mile. Unbeaten in three starts this year, the seven-year-old son of Iffraaj was winning the race for the second successive year and was enjoying his fourth win at the track for trainer Dhruba Selvaratnam and owner Sh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Bred by Michael Downey and Roalso Limited, FORJATT (IRE) is one of three winners out of Graceful Air (IRE).
