GRADE 3 ACACIA HANDICAP: WHATALADY flies up late to take the spoils
The first of five features on Guineas Day produced a great finish when the second favourite, WHATALADY, flew up late to take the spoils in the Grade 3 Acacia Handicap. The Stanley Ferreira trained four year filly, by virtue of this win made it four consecutive wins. Much of the credit has to go to jockey, Weichong Marwing, for a perfectly timed win.
The field broke well. The 5/2 favourite BE MINE TONIGHT was the first to show from WISDOM STONE and ENCHANTED SILK . WISDOM STONE soon took over the lead from BE MINE TONIGHT being relegated into third where she raced handily from there on.
Just before the entered the straight and the run in to the line the order never changed much. AMBER ORCHID showed briefly with FORTITUDE moving up to get a better position. WHATALADY was still content to sit back and bide her time.
With 300m to run BE MINE TONIGHT looked the likely winner but FORTITUDE never went away. The best finisher of all was WHATALADY and she blew them away and went on to win going away by a length. One to keep an eye on, amongst others, could be MARIA THERESA who was not disgraced back in fourth.
