GRADE 2 BETTING WORLD GAUTENG GUINEAS: HARRY'S SON gives Piere Strydom the Guineas double
The duel between HARRY'S SON and UNPARALLELED looked as though it was going to materialise at the 300m mark but the expectation was short-lived as the much travelled inmate from the Paul Lafferty yard took the Grade 2 honours.
HARRY'S SON has travelled the length and breadth of South Africa over the past few months in search of increased silverware. Perseverance and voyager miles certainly paid off. Piere Strydom who had ridden him in each of his last five starts must have had the confidence that he had something special underneath him. The former Durban City centre half, Paul Lafferty, will be setting up a yard in Dubai and it could be HARRY'S SON gets the pick of the boxes.
There was yet another perfect start to the feature races on the day. PRECURSOR was the first to show from another Cape Town runner on the day, MLJET, HARRY'S SON and IMPERIAL GOLD. HARRY'S SON was always well placed and maintained his third position for all but the last 400m of the race. Once they made their way into the home straight MLJET had moved up to take the lead. His challenge was a brief one. Piere Strydom sent HARRY'S SON to the front at the 400m mark. It looked very much as if the match race between the Australian bred HARRY'S SON and UNPARALLELED had developed. The challenges came from elsewhere.
The unfancied FRENCH NAVY finished well for second with FOREST FOX also finishing well. UNPARALLELED seemed to have done his dash and fell away to finish fourth. He must not be written off just yet though.
