Race-6 (Turf) R 1 000 000 1600m 15:45  Grade 1 H F OPPENHEIMER HORSE CHESTNUT STAKES - HEAVY METAL could cause an upset

The Sean Tarry trained HEAVY METAL came right back in to form in a Pinnacle Stakes race over shorter last time. That was his first run in a year. He ran on very well last time and could have hit form at the best time. That run was over 1160m and was best suited to him after the rest. If he doesn't need another run, then he can be the one to follow. One tends to forget that it was two years ago that he won the Durban July. Once again he will be partnered by S'Manga Khumalo, who has won aboard him three times from five rides. He will have his work cut out in a strong Grade 1 field where he meets the likes of , KING OF PAIN, LOUIS THE KING and CAPTAIN AMERICA. The race doesn't end there either.

Cape Town raider, KING OF PAIN, was also using his latest run as a comeback run. That run was in Cape Town after a lengthy break following his exploits in Durban during last season's Winter Season. In his last run there he finished second to FUTURA when not having had the best of runs to the line. On that run and his comeback run he should have every chance even though this will be his first run at this track.

There has been much written about the ability of  LOUIS THE KING and his record speaks for itself. He has yet to live up to expectations when racing outside of Johannesburg. One can ignore his run in last year's Durban July during the Winter Season and his run Cape Town during their Summer Season in the J & B Met. He is pure class and should be involved at the finish, especially at this track where he has registered five wins from seven runs. Seeing him win this race will not come as any surprise.

The second runner with a chance that Sean Tarry sends out is HALVE THE DEFICIT. He is coming back to form nicely and was running on in the Hawaii Stakes last time to finish a neck back in second. A measure of his ability would be in last year's July when he finished only four lengths behind Horse of the Year, LEGISLATE.

The Mike Bass trained ASHTON PARK was baulked late last time in the HAWAII STAKES and under the circumstances may have finished much closer were it not for that. One to consider as having a good chance.

1st - HEAVY METAL (4); 2nd - KING OF PAIN (2); 3rd - LOUIS THE KING (1); 4th - HALVE THE DEFICIT (5); 5th - ASHTON PARK (8)
