MUBTAAHIJ WINS A PROCESSION

It was a landslide win on a perfect night at the Dubai World Cup 2015 at Meydan that saw the three year old MUBTAAHIJ, son of  DUBAWI, win the $2 million UAE Derby, sponsored by the Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group. The prize, besides the enormous first place fund, at the end of the rainbow for the winner of this event was a tilt win at the prestigious Kentucky Derby, a possible first ever run for South African ace trainer Mike De Kock.

The South African, multiple South African champion trainer, had him perfectly tuned at peak fitness for this race. French jockey, Christophe Soumillon, was aboard MUBTAAHIJ for the first time and was easing the colt down well before the winning post looking around for the opposition.

Drawn well for this race, things did not go that well initially as he found himself pacing behind the leading group. His jockey was content to relax him back in the pocket. he allowed MUBTAAHIJ to follow the leading pack into the home straight.

Christophe Soumillon waited for the home straight before he put the pedal down. From then onward it was race over. The 1900m race was won in a mere 1:58.35 for 1900m on the fast running sand track. MUBTAAHIJ was extending at the line and had the race been over further the distance between himself and the field could have been exponential. MAFTOOL finished second ahead of GOLDEN BAROWS, but on the day had no answer to the winner.

This was the Irish Bred son of DUBAI MILLENNIUM's fourth win from six starts. Owned by Sheikh Mohammad Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum's, he was bred in Ireland at the Dunmore Stud Ltd.
