Grade 3 CARADOC GOLD CUP - KINGSTON MINES wins marathon event comfortably
KINGSTON MINES brought a smile to Mike De Kock's face with his first winner in South Africa on the day. The field broke evenly at the 2850m mark. For a brief moment KINGSTON MINES drew to the front but was soon passed by SUPERTUBE, RODEO SIOUX, SAVAGE WIND and LION'S EMBLEM. The pace was not on and KINGSTON MINES who led from the start last time when winning at Kenilworth stayed in contention just a few lengths off the leading pack.
The order never changed much down the back straight, except that KINGSTON MINES moved into fourth. The order never changed as they hit the home straight. KINGSTON MINES took the lead shortly thereafter and was given more reign by jockey Gavin Lerena. The two "Lions" fought it out for second with LIONS EMBLEM finishing ahead of HEART OF A LION. SKY RISE finished well to take fourth.
This win, his fourth, takes his career earnings to just short of R600 000.
