Race-7 (Turf /Stand) R 135 000 1000m 16:10 Ref-634 - LISTED KWAZULU-NATAL STAKES (F & M) - Corne Spies wins with SARVE
Gauteng trainer, Corne Spies, rounded off an excellent weekend on Sunday at Scottsville when he won the main feature race on the card, the Listed Kwazulu-Natal Stakes for fillies and mares. On Saturday he sent out SPEEDY SUZY who won the Grade 3 Pretty Polly Stakes. In the previous race on the Scottsville card he won the Non-Black-Type Sentinel Stakes with the formless maiden, SILVAN JAZZ.
They broke well, except for CHOIR MAIDEN who was lightly sluggish. The speed, as to be expected, was on right from the start and GARIBONDY showed the early pace from PEJ, COTSWOLD and GENIAL.
With half the race run SARVE had moved up to take over the lead from CHOIR MAIDEN who had moved up well, GARIBONDY who was still there up with the speed and CLEAR SAILING. The favourite PEJ was battling to get going.
SARVE eventually won with authority from a fast finishing CHOIR MAIDEN, GARIBONDY, who ran a good race and was not disgraced back in third.
