LISTED - EASTER HANDICAP - DOUBLE CLUTCH cruises home in overdrive
The move from Scottsville to Greyville benefited the four-year-old DOUBLE CLUTCH as he recorded his third consecutive win on this surface on Friday night. This was also his fifth win from twelve starts boosting his career winnings to over R350 000. His history and miraculous recovery have both been well documented. He won this race by about 1½ lengths and almost from start to finish and never looked like relinquishing his advantage.
The start was a good one with all the horses breaking on terms. DOUBLE CLUTCH found the lead early on from KING NEPTUNE and SILVER SPRING. The tote favourite, BALANCE SHEET, was content to sit mid division. The pace was not a fast one. The order remained the same almost until the final 600m when they came into the homer straight. JOSHUAS CROWN raced within touching distance throughout the preliminary stages of the race but fell away in the straight.
Halfway through the race GONE BABY GONE moved up into a prominent second place from KING NEPTUNE and SILVER SPRING. At the top of the straight DOUBLE CLUTCH extended his stride and from then on it didn't look as though he was going to be defeated and the race was on for second.
CRIME VICTIM moved up well to take second. SILVER SPRING stayed on for a creditable third. GONE BABY GONE was making good progress while BALANCE SHEET only got going late and only managed fifth.
