S A NURSERY (Grade 1) -ARABIAN BEAT wins first Grade 1 Champions Day
The speed was on from the start once again. The well fancied BUCKINGHAMPSHIRE appeared to lose a bit of ground as he stumbled ever so slightly at the start. MOGOK MASTER broke well down the inside of the track and took the field along at a good gallop in the early stages. Most of the action though was down the outside where BUCKINGHAMPSHIRE had made up for that rather nervy start.
One of the early contenders on the outside was ARABIAN BEAT moved up along with BUCKINGHAMPSHIRE. SHAAMA was also coming into the picture. The slow start by BUCKINGHAMPSHIRE and her having to overrace early on took is toll in the latter stages.
It was left to the eventual winner, ARABIAN BEAT and SHAAMA to fight out the closest finish of the day to date. It was only in the last 100m that the race was decided. SHAAMA never gave up and could be followed with confidence next time out seeing that was only her second run.
The 66/1 chance, MYSTICAL TWILIGHT ran on well for third while REDCARPET STYLE, who showed good pace throughout, stayed ion well for fourth.
The balance were well beaten
This two year old colt and son of Black Minnaloushe has now earned over R700 000 from two wins and a second in only three runs.
