PRESIDENT'S CHAMPIONS CHALLENGE (Grade 1) - WYLIE HALL beats MAJMU to win his biggest race of his career
The Weiho Marwing trained five year old Australian bred son of REDOUTE'S CHOICE won the biggest race of his career when he beat the strong odds-on favourite, MAJMU by a length in the R2 000 000 Grade 1 Champions Challenge.
Having beaten LEGISLATE in the Durban July last year, but only to lose it in the boardroom, WYLIE HALL and his connections have certainly put that behind them in no uncertain terms with two wins from three starts since that day. Well ridden by Bernard Fayd'Herbe he produced a good finish on the outside and was able to withstand the challenge thrown out by MAJMU.
The field broke well with UNPARALLELED the first to show from the rank outsider. HENRY HIGGINS, TELLINA and MAJMU.
With 1000m to go HENRY HIGGINS took the lead and slowed down the pace, which could have been to MAJMU's disadvantage as she began to move back down the field.
There were only 600m left when TELLINA came into the lead with LOUIS THE KING briefly showing and starting to look dangerous. WYLIE HALL looked dangerous with about 300m left and powerfully found the front with MAJMU doing the chasing, but the three year old filly was battling to make the necessary inroads. MAJMU will be back!
NO WORRIES got going late and ran on well for third ahead of HALVE THE DEFICIT who is slowly coming back to his best.
WYLIE HALL has now won just in excess of R3 600 000.
