GODOLPHIN BARB STAKES (Grade 3) - SEVENTH PLAIN shows his class
The Dennis Drier Australian bred two year old son of SEVENTH ROCK, SEVENTH PLAIN showed his class when he won the Grade 3 Godolphin Barb Stakes over 1100m at Scottsville this afternoon. Having beaten the highly rated BUCKINGHAMPSHIRE on debut at Kenilworth, it was apparent that SEVENTH PLAIN was going to be a special racehorse.
MISS LECTURE missed the break in an otherwise good start. MASTER SAM showed early on from SILVAN JAZZ, ROY'S GUL GUL HA and MR ROY. In the early stages SEVENTH PLAIN was content to sit off them and wait for the time to strike.
At the halfway stage SILVAN JAZZ took over the lead from MASTER SAM, BEAT THE RETREAT and MR ROY. It was with 500m to go that SEVENTH PLAIN began to move into contention and as soon as jockey Anton Marcus hit the launch button, it was very much race over for first. BEAT THE RETREAT moved up for second and ran a good race. MR ROY also stayed on for third while RED HOT POKER passed a few tiring horses to take a minor cheque.
SEVENTH PLAIN looks as though he could challenge for top honours in some of the two year old races during the KZN Season.
