THE SLEDGEHAMMER (Listed) - SOLAR STAR shines at Scottsville
The four year old son of KAHAL, SOLAR STAR, produced a very strong finish to take the Sledgehammer in the sixth and final feature. BOLD INSPIRATION was the first to show and it became evident that he was rather a reluctant leader for most of the race. It has been his style, to lead from the front. DYNAMIC followed him from AKII BUA, KRAMBAMBULI and KOLKATA. The eventual winner, SOLAR STAR was content to sit mid division.
At the halfway mark it was BOLD INSPIRATION who was still at the head of the field from DYNAMIC and KRAMBAMBULI and LEEULOOP JET. Once they ran about 100m into the home straight the favourite BOLD INSPIRATION had run his race and had nothing more to offer.
SOLAR STAR, who produced a very good finish at Greyville last time did so again this afternoon at Scottsville, this time under Stuart Randolph. The Dean Kannemeyer yard has been firing this season and the Cape Town trainer could end up winning a few more features this winter.
DYNAMIC stayed on for second while LEEULOOP JET ran a hugely improved race. CANDY MOON also found a good finish to run fourth.
