NHA head resigns, leaves massive vacuum in racing

The resignation of Denzil Pillay, the CEO of what used to be known as the Jockey Club of Southern Africa,  has come as a shock to some.

However,  the rumours were swirling as to his departure as early as January.  The only CEO of a racing organisation of previously disadvantaged status, it leaves a massive void in the transformation progress that had been made for racing in South Africa. A step backwards for South African horse racing indeed.

"It is with regret that The National Horseracing Authority wishes to announce that Mr Denzil Pillay, the Chief Executive, has resigned.

The Chairman and the National Board of the NHA would like to take this opportunity to thank and at the same time wish Mr Pillay well in his future endeavours, " said their press release.
