ZULU KINGDOM EXPLORER GOLDEN SLIPPER (Grade 1) - CHESTNUTS 'N PEARLS wins first Grade 1 on Vodacom July Day in fine style
The smart looking two year old daughter of HORSE CHESTNUT, CJESTNUTS 'N PEARLS, proved her class this afternoon when she romped away to win the first Grade 1 feature on the day The Dennis Drier filly was always well placed throughout the race and was left with just a few lengths to make up in the home straight.
The break was a good one for two year old fillies and the speed was on right from the off. TONI PERFORMS was the first to show as she made her way from the outside to the inside running rail. LAUDERDALE was next with LA STRADA and CHESTNUTS 'N PEARLS. the favourite PRINCESS ROYAL was always in contention.
The race changed dramatically in the final 400m. PRINCESS ROYAL looked dangerous but never went on with the effort. The two Mike Azzie runners, LA STRADA and FROSTED HONEY also began finding on the inside but fell away at the crucial part of the race.
All the while, the Dennis Drier trained daughter of HORSE CHESTNUT was finishing best of all under a confident ride from Sean Cormack. The Mike De Kock runner, ALMASHOOQA ran on strongly late and she will win a Graded race soon. SAPSAN flew late under Piere Strydom while LAUDERDALE stayed on for a creditable fourth.
The win, her second from three starts pushes her earning up beyond the R400 000. Looks likely to win again at this level.
