SAD LOSS OF SAIL FROM SEATTLE

Ascot Stud have announced the sad loss of their promising young stallion Sail From Seattle.
He was just 12 years old at the time of his death, and his passing is a sad loss to the Cape stallion ranks.

Sail From Seattle, whose close relative Speighster won the recent Gr3 Dwyer Stakes, was a horse with an exceptional pedigree.
His sire Gone West (who himself won the Dwyer when it had Gr1 status) was one of Mr Prospector’s finest sire sons. Gone West, who left behind more than 100 stakes winners, also established himself as an exceptional sire of top class stallions with his better sire sons including Elusive Quality, Grand Slam, Mr. Greeley, Speightstown, and the full brothers Zafonic and Zamidar. He is also the sire of Western Winter, one of the best stallions ever to stand in South Africa and a triple champion sire in this country.

The stakes winning Sail From Seattle (whose 4 wins from just 7 outings included the Mt Sassafras Stakes) is from an equally distinguished female line.
He was produced by the unraced Seattle Classic, herself a daughter of Triple Crown winner and champion sire/broodmare sire Seattle Slew. Seattle Classic, out of Champion Classy ‘N Smart, dam of champion Dance Smartly and Smart Strike. The latter, another truly great sire son of Mr Prospector, has headed the US General Sires List on two occasion, and is the sire of such champions as Curlin, English Channel, Lookin At Lucky, My Miss Aurelia, Never Retreat and Soaring Free. Another half brother to Seattle Classic was the Gr2 winner Strike Smartly, who, despite dying prematurely, made his mark in South Africa, with such Gr1 winning progeny as Bouquet-Garni, Slumdogmillionaire and Smart Banker.
