eLAN PROPERTY GROUP GOLD CUP (Grade 1) - WILD ONE discovers gold

Trainer Mike De Kock landed the Grade 1 with his five year old WILD ONE. The five year old son of MOGOK was well placed throughout and was perrfectly ridden by jockey Anthony Delpech. Loooking at his preparation for this race he was perfectly prepped for the race and was only his third run after a lengthy break since finishing a brillaint second to WAIVIN' FLAG in this race last year. Always well placed he found a dream run in the latter stages down the inside and despite hanging towards the outside, he had enough in the tank to win well.

The race started well with stable companion, KINGSTON MINES one of the early pace setters from SAVAGE WIND, J'S OUTSIDER, ASH CLOUD and SOLID SPEED. being a long distance race, there was not much change to the order amongst the front division. All the while WILD ONE was kept in touch throughout.

At the entrance into the home straight WILD ONE moved up down the inside. There was a sudden change to the complexion of the race as the field made an attempt to strike for gold. When WILD ONE moved in onto BALANCE SHEET there was some contact and all credit to the Dean Kannemeyer runner, BALANCE SHEET ran a great race for a three year old to stay on for second. This son of SILVANO looks to have a bright future as a successful stayer. SAVAGE WIND stayed on well for third and also showed great stamina.

This is WILD ONE'S fourth win from nineteen starts and he has earned just under R1 800 000 in stakes money.
