Memory poised for Haydock chance

Magical Memory is likely to be supplemented for the Betfred Sprint Cup at Monday's confirmation stage.

Frankie Dettori recommended to connections they look at running the progressive three-year-old in the Group One at Haydock on Saturday week after he steered the three-year-old sprinter to victory in the Stewards' Cup at Glorious Goodwood.

That could well turn into a reality as trainer Charlie Hills took the three-year-old gelding out of his other option, Saturday's Listed Hopeful Stakes at Newmarket, at the 48-hour final declaration stage.

Sam Hoskins, racing manager for owners Kennet Valley Thoroughbreds, said: "We'll have a look at the weather forecast and see what the ground is like on Monday morning and then I think we'll put him in there.

"There's no such thing as an easy Group One, but it looks an open affair. He's a progressive horse and there's not that much difference between these good handicappers and good sprinters.

"Frankie Dettori's recommended we do it and Charlie as well, so we'll see what happens on Monday morning.

"That's the plan at the moment as long as it's not going to turn out to be testing ground. I think he's fine on most types of ground, but he wouldn't want extremes. At Haydock that would be my concern.

"He keeps going the right way and has been working extremely well at home. It's very exciting."

Hoskins, who would love Dettori to be available to ride the horse again, revealed the owners had rejected several offers for Magical Memory.

"It's too early to say if Frankie would be able to ride. It would be great if he could, but obviously he has commitments and I'm sure finding a jockey wouldn't be a problem," he said.

"It's really exciting for the syndicate. We've rejected a few offers for him recently. It's nice to live the dream and to be able to go there in our colours.

"He's a gelding so we're not trying to look after him as if he was a prospective stallion. Let's hope we can beat some expensive colts along the way."
