Dubai mourns death of Rulers Son

The son of the Godolphin owner and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has passed on aged 33 of a heart attack. He was the owner of Zabeel Racing. 

Sheikh Rashid was a well-known sports figure in the UAE. He had participated in a number of International and local Endurance competitions winning a number of laurels for the country. His greatest achievement thus far was winning 2 Gold medals in the 2006 Doha Asian Olympics 120 km Endurance individual mixed as well as 120 km Endurance Team Mixed events. As the owner of Zabeel Racing International, H.H. Sheikh Rashid had led the individual owners list an unprecedented 5 times with over 428 wins to date.

The state run media entity WAM announced his death, "Ruler’s Court of Dubai mourns the late Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The Diwan of the Ruler of Dubai mourns His Highness the late Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who passed away this morning of a heart attack.

Prayers will be held at Zabeel mosque on Saturday evening September 19, and he will be then buried in Umm Harir cemetery in Bur Dubai. “God bless the deceased young man . We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.’

The Court declared three days of mourning in the emirate of Dubai from Saturday and flags will be at half mast at government departments and institutions in the emirate."
