Payne becomes first female to win Melbourne Cup

Prince Of Penzance has won the 2015 Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m), with Michelle Payne becoming the first female jockey to win the feature race.

It is also a first Melbourne Cup victory for premiership-winning trainer Darren Weir, seeing the Ballarat-based horseman upstage a field consisting of 11 internationals and some of Australia's toughest stayers.

Max Dynamite, for Irish trainer Willie Mullins, flashed home to finish second.

Lindsay Park's Criterion was brave yet again, after finishing second to Winx in the Cox Plate, to finish third.

Raging favourite Fame Game was unsighted in the finish, brought wide on the home turn but unable to run out the trip. Racing.com
