Star apprentice stood down over an irregularity

Champion Queensland apprentice Luke Tarrant has been stood down indefinitely by local stewards after a sample he produced returned an irregularity.

Chief steward Allan Reardon said Tarrant "was stood down immediately” while they await results of the second sample currently being tested.

"There’s an issue with the sample he returned at Ipswich about two weeks ago,” chief steward Allan Reardon said.

"We are awaiting the result certificate from the B sample before we take the matter any further.”

Tarrant had eight rides at the big Gold Coast meeting on Saturday including Gundy Spirit in the Listed Goldmarket Handicap and the early favourite Tina Melina in the Driefontein Handicap.

There are currently no replacement riders for Tarrant’s engagements.
