Payne suspended but still right for Magic Millions

Melbourne Cup-winning jockey will still be able to ride at next Saturday’s Magic Millions meeting on the Gold Coast despite incurring a careless riding suspension at Moonee Valley.

Stewards charged Payne with careless riding after alleging she allowed her mount Snitzel Music to shift in when insufficiently clear of Tokyo Tycoon at the 800m of the VOBIS Gold Carat.

The incident caused Tokyo Tycoon to be taken in and steadied while Antelucan was hampered.

Payne initially argued her case but decided to plead guilty in order to ensure she could ride Husson Eagle and Atalanta Miss for her brother, trainer Patrick Payne, at the Gold Coast.

Husson Eagle is nominated for the $1 million Magic Millions Sprint (1100m) while Atalanta Miss has entries for the $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) and the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap (1300m).

Steward deemed the offence was in the low range of severity while considering Antelucan’s racing manners, Payne’s guilty plea and her good record before deciding on a seven-meeting suspension.

Payne’s ban is set to start at midnight on Saturday and end at midnight on Friday.
