New South Wales jockey Peter Wells is out of action indefinitely after being knocked out late on Saturday night.

Wells was reportedly bashed outside a hotel in Berry and was taken to hospital.

Among other injuries, scans revealed the rider to have suffered a shattered eye socket, ruling him out of any riding commitments in the foreseeable future.

Racing NSW Stewards are aware of the incident and are providing assistance with the investigation.
