TONY RUFFEL STAKES (Grade 3) - ROMANY PRINCE has the form but not the draw

The draw could play a major part in the outcome of the first Grade 3 on today's card at Turffontein this afternoon. ROMANY PRINCE has very good form and has yet to run a bad race over this C & D. He has run three times over the C & D for one win and two seconds. On form he appears to be the one to beat. Many will look elsewhere for the winner as he is drawn one from outside in twelve in a thirteen horse field. If he can overcome that draw and get a clear run in to the line then I see no reason why he cannot win. He ran a very good race at this level last time and ought to be respected again this afternoon. his merit rating have, on the other hand, shot up from 97 to 101 for this race. I expect him to give a good account of himself despite the draw on the tighter of the two Turffontein tracks.

The Mike De Kock, SUYOOF, has only raced three times. He was an impressive second behind BRAZUCA on debut and then proceeded to win his next two, which included a feature race similar to this last time. He is still improving and should be the one to challenge the judges in the latter stages of the race. Top jockey has the ride.

RIKITIKITANA has begun to find "his feet" since not showing against NOAH FROM GOA in the Dingaans in November. His next two runs after that had showed improvement and was rewarded with a win over a similar distance at the Vaal last time. Yard and jockey will be of note.

NEW PREDATOR has run five races thus far for two wins and three close up seconds. He takes on stronger but will be running on in the latter stages of the race. LINEKER represents the Justin Snaith yard, fresh from their eight from twelve winners on J & B Met Day last week. Top jockey, who did so well last Saturday for the yard on that day, is aboard. Don't ignore.

1st - ROMANY PRINCE (5); 2nd - SUYOOF (6); 3rd - RIKITIKITANA (8); 4th - NEW PREDATOR (3); 5th - LINEKER (4)
